page 21: layout 3

So here is my layout/internalization of the new page 21. with some slight changes to the other layout. 9 panels. Alternate ending. no nudity. [grey tone added to help make sense of the skritchy-skratch.]

panel 1 no change -- moved angle down and left
panel 2 - no change
panel 3 - speedlines? that's right dammit those ARE speedlines! I think top down will be tough here so I went with an angle that shows more of seedless reaction to Patrice's "rush". Need help here.
For both panels 4 and 5, I pushed in a little closer to their faces. We can still see seeds hands -not- grasping pat. He is back on his heels as she rushes to embrace him in panel 4. And then panel 5 has the calmer seeds, actually returning the embrace a little-- although his guard is only slightly down here. I think the emotions on both faces are really paramount here [my opinion]
panel 6 - again I pushed in a bit to see pats face. She is delivering the longest bit of dialogue in the piece here and I think we need to see and hear her. Also I unconsciously drew Patrice closer to seeds than in the layout (maybe I was trying to save space for the balloons but that's not like me at all) . ANyway, she is pulling back a bit from the embrace. Seeds is still kind of holding her although now he is trying to read her feelings- here his peace is interrupted by her words and reaction; he is back on guard a bit again.
panel 7 - perhaps Patrice looks a tad too angry here. I was going for a head-cocked look and maybe took it too far.
panel 8 -9 maybe to close-up to both seeds and brett...but panel 8 is nothing but seeds eyeballing brett expectantly so his face is enough I think. panel 9, I didn't think we needed to be over seeds' shoulder in the pic. lemme know and it is back.

Man this page was hard to layout! A lot going on here with action mixed with head shots. Well I think it will work ok. Let me know what you think

page 19 - layout

whew.....there is a ton of stuff going on page 19. I think after a lot of drawing and redrawing that this layout will work. My first reaction to reading the script was to end page 19 on panel 5, turn panel 6 into a double page spread with panels 7 and 8 as insets. That would've give me a lot more room to play with all the details in the panel description...but I don't know, I think the result on one page is pretty cool. Also, since the drawings were pretty loose, I used photshop to highlight the main elements in the panel to help see the composition and flow.

working: p17 the old switcheroo

Bad scan but you can probably tell the bottom car is not a dodge charger anymore (chrysler 300)...not sure if the 300 works as the, "close to a charger", but the effect only has to last for one more panel really.

working: p17 refining poses and angles

changes in all panels except panel 5.
-panel 2 pulled brett back to make room for dialogue. changed expression on Seedless' face.
-panel 3 changed angle to show more expression. more interesting
-panel 4 changed angle of brett's head to make it more consistent with panel3, more expression, more naturalistic and more interesting.
-panel 6 changed the driver getting out of the car.
-panel 7 changed the drivers left arm

sketchbook: the Edmund Fitzgerald

Attempting to draw more different things. Here is the mighty Edmund Fitzgerald. A lake freighter which sank in Lake Superior in 1975. The song, "The wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot haunted me as a kid when we'd go fishing in a little row boat in Lake Michigan with my Dad.

sketchbook: bought me a brush

Bought a brush and started going to town with inks. Also experimented with using lighter washes to get more tone.

Ring necked duck

Marcus and I saw some interesting ducks on a walk around the big pond in Kingstowne. I searched the internet when we got home and sketched it with my gray and black brush pens.

Looks like it is called the "ring necked duck". Intersting name since the ones we saw didn't actually have rings around their necks. (Of course, I may be mis-identifying it.)
